Understanding Charges On Your Bill

  • Your bill could be higher or lower if you add or change services in the middle of a billing cycle. In this event, a prorated, or partial, charge can appear on your bill. Prorated charges will be easily recognizable with the label "prorated" before the charge or credit, and each prorated section will be outlined in blue.

You’ll see a summary of changes highlighted in the “What changed since your last bill” section when the total bill amount is different compared to the total bill amount in the previous bill period. The “What changed” summaries will be shown at both the Account Summary and Line Level sections of your bill.
  • Some of key charge categories on your bill are described below:
    • Beginning Balance:
      • The amount still owed on from last billing period. Payments Received shows any payments made between your previous and current billing period.
    • Total Due By:
      • The total balance for the account (what you owe). This includes current charges and past due charges, if applicable.
    • Plan Charges:
      • The cost of your wireless plans.
    • Device & Accessory Charges:
      • The cost, after applying promotional credits, of your wireless devices, such as phones, tablets, watches and routers.
    • Installment Charges:
      • The monthly cost, before applying promotional credits, for your device or accessories on an installment contract.
    • Promotional Credits:
      • Money off on your device purchase from a special offer.
    • Plan Add-on Charges:
      • Optional features, services, or products selected as enhancements to your plan.
    • Carrier Fees–Regulatory Cost Recovery Fee:
      • The cost of regulatory compliance and ensures we continue to meet changing industry regulations.
    • Carrier Fees–Administrative Fee:
      • The cost to recover expenses UScellular must pay to others in order to provide you with service. Expenses may include taxes and rent for cell site locations, utility expenses and costs paid to other telecommunication companies.
    • Government Fees & Taxes:
      • Charges levied by federal and state authorities.
    • Promotional credits are most typically related to a special offer on a new installment device purchase. Device installment promotional credits, if applicable, are listed in the "Device & Accessory Charges" section of your bill.
    • Credits can take up to two billing cycles after a new device activation to show up on your account.
Note: Making any changes to your account (e.g., plan change, early installment plan payoff, suspending a line, etc.) may impact your promotional credit eligibility.
  • We make it easy to keep track of your device installment balance. To see how much is left on yours, simply log in to My Account and go to the Devices & Plans page. Or, you'll see installment details listed under the "Device & Accessory Charges" section of your bill.
  • Call Detail can be seen on on your paper bill or PDF bill image in My Account. To find your bill:
    • Log into My Account
    • Click the "View Bill" button near the top of the page.
    • Click the "Download Bill" button near the bottom of the page.

If you don't see a Call Detail section on your bill, please contact us and we can add the section for you.
  • Late payment charges occur if a previous month's bill was not paid in full. In this event, a late-payment charge is added to the total amount due on your next bill. If a late fee is accrued, Auto Pay discount will not be available for that bill cycle. To qualify for the Auto Pay discount for the current billing cycle, the account balance must be paid in full by the original due date.
  • We list your retail purchases on your bill to help you keep track of everything related to your account. Purchases made and paid for at a retail store are shown in the "Beginning Balance" section of your bill. The "Purchases (in-store, web, telesales)" category reflects the total purchases during the billing period, and payments made at retail are shown in the "Total Payments Received" section.
  • UScellular® charges its customers a Regulatory Cost Recovery Fee to defray the costs of regulatory compliance and this fee may change from time to time. The fee includes, but is not limited to, number pooling, local number portability, wireless local number portability, E-911, CPNI, Federal Telecommunications Relay Services, Federal Regulatory Fees, tower mandate costs and reductions in available Universal Service Funding which had been used to offset some of the costs of operating networks in the UScellular Eligible Telecommunication territories. UScellular is not required by law to charge this fee. The fee is applied based on the active Service Plan on the bill date. The Regulatory Cost Recovery Fee may also include costs incurred in prior years that have not been fully recovered.
  • UScellular charges an Administrative Fee as part of some of the expenses the company must pay to others in order to provide service to you. The fee is applied based on the active Service Plan on the bill date. UScellular is not required by law to charge this fee. These expenses include:
    • Taxes assessed on facilities used to provide wireless service.
    • Property taxes imposed on cell site locations.
    • Rent or similar expenses associated with cell site locations and other physical facilities housing equipment used within our network.
    • Utility expenses incurred to operate the network.
    • Costs paid to other telecommunication companies for the transport and termination of calls and data sessions.
  • UScellular may charge a one-time Device Activation fee for new lines or when changing a device on an existing line.
  • Current unlimited plans charge a monthly service fee for unlimited minutes, messages, and data. If not on our unlimited plan, your plan will factor in allocated plan minutes, messages, and/or data in addition to your monthly service fee.
In addition to your monthly service charge, you may be charged:
    • Using international roaming or other optional features, or making international calls.
    • A late-payment charge is applied to your bill when the previous month's bill has not been paid in full, leaving a previous amount due carried forward. The late-payment charge is included in the total amount due on the current bill.
    • Normal taxes will apply for your wireless service based on the address on the account, just as they would for your existing other utilities such as electricity.
    • A federal Universal Service Fund fee is included with each UScellular line. Started in 1988, all carriers, including UScellular, were required to contribute to this fund, which was created to ensure quality, affordable service for all consumers, especially those in rural areas, as well as schools, libraries, and hospitals.
    • A state Universal Service Fund surcharge is included in some states. This surcharge helps subsidize specialized telecommunications programs and provides discounts to low-income families.
    • While we’ll never charge you for 911 calls, your state may require us to charge a state-variant fee to help fund access to emergency services in your area.
  • Google Carrier Billing allows customers of Google Play to pay for premium downloads without manually inputting credit, debit, or gift card information. Instead, new charges are billed directly to your UScellular account. This ensures your sensitive payment information is not directly shared, making transactions safer and more convenient.

You may add, remove, or edit your Google Carrier Billing in Google Play using the instructions provided by Google.
